Lindau was in the year 882 for the first time as mentioned in a fishing village and is the largest city on the Bavarian Lake Constance today with 24 500 inhabitants.

The actual old town and the port is located on a picturesque Island in Lake Constance, which is connected by a pier and a Causeway to the Mainland.

One of the most popular tourist destinations on Lake Constance is the port of Lindau. The stroll along the palm-lined promenade you feel a hint of Mediterranean flair. Mang Tower is a relic of the old town fortifications of the 13th century. The probably most popular photo opportunity at the "Bavarian sea" is the Lindau harbour entrance, flanked by the Bavarian lion and the new lighthouse.

The streets of the old town are dominated by the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Arbours, fountain and traditional local determine the image of the Maximilianstrasse, the most popular shopping district of Lindau. A branch is in the Zitronengässle, where the time seems to have remained.

The most outstanding House of Lindau, the House of Calvazzen, which today houses the Lindauer Town Museum is on the market square. Here, visitors can admire an impressive collection of furniture, paintings and toys of 15th to the 19th century.

The Lake Constance region invites you to wonderful tours with the car. Excursions are worth the picturesque Kleinwalsertal, the Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein or the ski resort Oberstdorf to the flower island of Mainau, the pole-conversion Museum of Unteruhldingen.
